COVID-19 Safety Precautions

COVID-19 Safety January 2022 - keeping patients and staff safe

The government has announced that face coverings will be required in all shops from 30th November 2021.

As a registered NHS healthcare provider, we have never stopped wearing masks or social distancing. We have maintained our COVID-19 safety procedures all throughout the pandemic. We have requested that everyone who comes into the practice also wear a face covering, unless exempt. We continue to health-screen everyone before arrival.

Other measures that we continue to take include, but is not limited to:

  • Appointment-only gives you a relaxed & comfortable experience. We can plan, prepare and control who comes in and how many people are in the practice. This will ensure that your visit is relaxed, with time to ask questions and time to hear explanations. This will make visiting our practice a much more pleasant experience and will give you peace of mind. We want all of our patients and staff to be comfortable and feel safe. Be assured that we have not had any transmission of COVID-19 in any of our practices.
  • We also request that our patients continue to observe social distancing measures.
  • Sanitiser stations throughout the practice – lots of them!
  • PPE for all staff and Perspex screens on reception. Most practices also have Perspex screen on the dispensing desks. Our staff always wear masks when near patients.
  • Controlled frame selection to ensure disinfection between patients.
  • Strict NHS guidelines are in place for cleaning and sanitising surfaces and equipment between patients.
  • Health screening of all patients before they arrive at the practice.
  • Collection of glasses is also by appointment to control who is in the practice at any one time.
  • Contact lenses collection can be done without an appointment but you may have to wait outside if there are others already in the practice, so an appointment is recommended.

Our experience and professionalism, in addition to our independent status, means that we can implement the highest safety standards regardless of cost (which we have, as you would expect!).

Please remember that we are a healthcare practice and part of the NHS. We have stricter measures in place than a regular shop so you can be assured of complete comfort and safety.

COVID-19 and Eye Tests

  • Eye tests are through pre-arranged appointment only which limits the number of patients in each practice.
  • For your safety, the Optometrist will be wearing the NHS-recommended PPE which includes gloves and an apron as well as an FFP2 respirator.
  • There will be a breath guard between you and the Optometrist during the eye test.
  • The room will be sanitised between appointments and the equipment cleaned with alcohol wipes. This has always been done.

You can feel assured that we have taken every precaution to ensure the safety and peace of mind for our patients and our staff. We have not had any transmission of COVID-19 in any of our practices.
